Alstom is a world-wide operating company that designs, supplies and maintains products and solutions for the railway companies. Alstom provides mobility solutions such as rolling stock, signalling systems, complete railway systems (turnkey) and the maintenance thereof.

 

Over the past decade Alstom has tried to contribute to the energy transition by developing hybrid solutions, two of which will be presented. To reduce emission of greenhouse gasses by shunting locomotives a diesel battery hybrid locomotive has been developed. For train lines where no catenary is present a passenger train running on hydrogen is available to replace the traditional diesel train. Design considerations for both solutions will be discussed.
