Why the catamaran is awesome

Monday, February 25, 2019

You all know me as the Commissioner of Education, but you probably haven’t seen me during one of my favorite activities: sailing, preferably on a catamaran.

At the age of 7, I started sailing. I started off with a small Optimist and Catsy and later switched to the bigger catamarans. I mainly sailed at the Belgium coast where my grandparents have an apartment. I used to go to a sailing camp for one week every year from the age of 8 until 15. Now, whenever I go on vacation to the south and I am close to a sea, I always hire a catamaran and go out sailing a few times.

The Board Tour!

Saturday, February 9, 2019

Woehoeee! I just thought of a new blog type: I’m hereby introducing the live blog. I’ll be reporting on our ‘Board tour’ this weekend, where our board meets each other’s parents. I’ll keep you up to date on all the stories about the rest (hehe). Unfortunately, Dana and David could not make it.

You can’t guess how happy I am that I have to write this blog exactly this week. This week is awesome because, as you must have noticed, the world is covered in snow. I absolutely love winter, but I love snow even more. I can remember the last few times the first snow fell and how I reacted or where I was. For instance, last year, the first snow started to fall down during one of the lab sessions of Electromechanics. I was very very excited and almost pushed Niek out of his chair when pointing to the window. The time before that, I woke up on a Saturday morning at my parents’ house.

How I ended up at Electrical Engineering

Tuesday, January 15, 2019

In 6VWO I decided I want to become an aerospace engineer. This was because I was very motivated to contribute in the exploration of space! But the selection procedure for new students was semi-randomized, based on results from your exams. It was  halfway June when I got the news, one and a half month after the deadline of subscribing for your study had passed. So I had to act fast and one of my friends convinced me astrophysics is the same, right? Wrong! But I started it and it was challenging me to think from every angle, which fit my learning motivations and made it fun!

Inline skating!!

Friday, December 21, 2018

For those who know me, it's only a matter of time until a blog about inline skating would appear, so here it is! Honestly, I can't help it, but whenever I have wheels under my feet, it feels like a more natural state to be in. I even feel a sort of “naked” without wheels. If the weather allows it, I often end up covering more kilometers on my wheeled shoes than on my bike. Besides allowing me to move insanely fast, they also increase my freedom of movement by a factor miljuizend, even though they hardly take up any space!
