The Fellowship of Thor

Monday, October 22, 2018

Lord of the Rings can always be used to perfectly describe my life, or at least that's what I keep telling myself. While writing these very words, the beautiful sound of hobbits, elves, dwarves, Rohan, and Gondor is propagating through my house. We don't exactly have a ring to throw in a volcano, but I do see my Board as an awesome Fellowship of people who can get the job done while still having fun with it, just like for instance Gimli and Legolas, who can still joke about counting kills while being in a battle. Let's be clear about one thing; I don't intend to get our own fellowship down to only 2 people like in LotR, I rather plan to finish this year without the breaking of the fellowship!

A lot can happen in a day: one moment you are attending a constitutional drink, 20 minutes later you are drinking litres of beer in a beautiful dress! A week is very busy for a Board member, but also contains a lot of fun moments and activities. There is a clear contrast between the Fellowship of Thor and the Fellowship of the Ring: Frodo only has one job, whilst we as Board members have much more (but simpler) tasks at hand. (Of course, one does not simply walk into Mordor.)

Another fun event this week was the Wervingsdagen Kick-Off. As the bridge between Thor and Wervingsdagen, I helped promote the Skill Sessions at the event itself, while also providing people with beers. The great thing about this Kick-Off drink was the opening of the subscriptions for the Skill Sessions which take place 10 to 14 December. A lot of people already registered for the free workshop and trainings which is good to see. If you haven’t done so yet, it is a great opportunity to improve some personal and professional skills, so I urge you to subscribe at!

After all these activities last week, it's time to look at the exams. I hope your study goes a lot better than my study progress because if you don't study enough, YOU SHALL NOT PASS, as said by my favourite wizard.

All this drivel about Lord of the Rings is of course not without purpose. I hope this inspires you all to use the time given to you to watch my favourite trilogy with me when I organize 'One Marathon To Rule Them All' and wish you the best of luck with your exams!

p.s. @Dana There is still hope for you  ;)
